ZABEREG. Disappearing villages of Northern Russia
This project began back in 2008 when I realized that vast isolated area in Arkhangelsk region of Russia is going through a historical period. After several centuries of nurturing unique culture, traditions and lifestyle, nowadays all of it falls apart as people are leaving the villages, looking for jobs and perspectives.
Neglected by the government and social institutions, the region becomes empty, forests are replacing farming fields and villages.
Zabereg project was started in 2008 and finished in 2021. Prints, art book and postcards from the project can be purchased in the online store.
